How long are the video lessons?
Research shows students absorb new information best in shorter sessions, so our video lessons are designed to be no longer than 20 minutes.
My student took ASL I somewhere else. Can they join your ASL II class?
Yes. We're happy to welcome your student into the program. If their previous class didn't cover everything we've taught our students, we'll work with you to bring them up to speed so they can continue at the same level as the rest of the class.
How do I know the ASL being taught in this class is accurate?
The creator of these classes is a graduate of Gallaudet University, the only university in the world built for Deaf and hard of hearing students, where every class is taught in ASL. Your student is learning from a trusted, qualified guide from day one.
What is the format of the video submission homework, and how does it benefit my student?
At the end of each chapter, students submit a video of themselves signing a list of sentences using the new vocabulary. Our instructor reviews it and gives personalized feedback, helping your student fix errors before they become habits that are hard to break.
What is included in each chapter?
Each course, ASL I and ASL II, includes ten chapters. Most chapters contain video lessons, practice activities, a quiz, a video assignment, and a chapter test. Chapter 5 is the midterm and Chapter 10 is the final exam, each including a video assignment, test, and student project.
My student doesn't like being filmed. How do you work around this?
Since the curriculum is self-paced, you can choose to waive the video assignments if needed. We recommend keeping them when possible, since they help ensure accurate signing, but the choice is yours.
