An Experienced Educator with a Passion for ASL
Ms. Thia is a Certified ASL Teacher, founder of Homeschool ASL, and graduate of Gallaudet University—the world's premier university for Deaf and hard of hearing students, where American Sign Language is the primary language of instruction. She also holds a Master's degree in Teaching ASL from the University of Northern Colorado.
As someone who is Deaf/Hard of Hearing herself, Ms. Thia brings both professional expertise and personal experience to her teaching. Combined with her background as a former homeschool student, she understands the flexibility, independence, and family-centered approach that make homeschooling unique. That perspective has shaped Homeschool ASL from the very beginning, creating courses that are both academically meaningful and easy to fit into a homeschool lifestyle.
Over the years, she has taught thousands of students through online courses, live classes, workshops, and educational programs. In addition to her work in education, Ms. Thia is widely recognized for her contributions to the ASL community through content creation, advocacy, and leadership in ASL Theatre, helping make sign language more accessible and visible to families across the country.
Her goal is simple: to help students build confidence, develop real communication skills, and discover the richness of Deaf culture while making learning ASL an experience they genuinely enjoy.
